My name is Miss. Sabihisma Mohamedi Isimbula, a young sailor of 26 years old from Tanzania, an active member of WOMESA Tanzania Chapter, a Holder of Bachelor Degree in Maritime Transport and Nautical Science from Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI).
I come to know Maritime Industry after started my studies at Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute where I was pursuing my for years Bachelor Degree and as of that moment, I happened to like it even more to fall in love with that carrier and is when I knew was what I wanted to do being a seafarer and being part of Maritime industry.
Discouragement and disappointment were an avoidable circumstance to me as a young girl seafarer that had managed to be part of those females who are challenging the male dominations in the industry. All I can advise to all ladies out there is that you can be one among us (seafarer), you can be part of Marine Industry jus believe in yourself you can do it, work hard, get much experience in order to be competent.
Sometimes if I look back, I find it very encouraging for women to work on-board a ship and am very proudly of myself being among the few ladies works on board the ship as seafarer. However, it’s my dream to work on large vessels across the world such as cruise ships, container ships or tanker ships not only as sailor but also as a chief mate and Captain of the vessel.
