Testimonial Profile: Lisa Ntukula
Current Position: Marine Engineer, TEMESA Headquarters
My name is Lisa Ntukula, and I am proud to be a Marine Engineer serving in Tanzania’s marine transport sector. My journey has been full of learning, growth, and purpose.
I started my career in 2021 at Tanga Port with the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA). This is where I first learned how ports operate and how to take care of vessels. It was my foundation and helped me understand the importance of safe and efficient marine services.
In 2022, I joined Nyehunge Ferries in Mwanza. Working on the ferries at Lake Victoria gave me hands-on experience in maintaining vessels and ensure smooth running of machinery.
By 2023, I was working at Dar es Salaam Port, one of the busiest in East Africa. It was a challenging and fast-paced environment, but it helped me grow. I learned more about managing marine assets, following safety rules, and working closely with teams under pressure.
Now, since 2024, I’m working at TEMESA Headquarters. In this national role, I help manage and improve government owned vessels and ferry services across the country. I feel honoured to be part of efforts that improve transport and support communities.
As a woman in a male dominated field, I’ve faced challenges but I’ve also found strength. I believe in safe, inclusive workplaces, and I’m passionate about encouraging young women to join marine engineering. I want to be part of a better, safer, and more innovative future for marine transport in Tanzania.
