My name is Esther Sikazwe, and I hold an Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering Technology as well as a Class 3 Certificate of Competence in Marine Engineering. I am currently employed by Tanzania Shipping Company (TASHICO), serving in the position of Marine Engineer.
Throughout my time at TASHICO, I have had the privilege to serve in various key roles, including:
- Chief Engineer – MV Butiama Hapa Kazi Tu
- Chief Engineer – MV Clarias
- First Engineer – MV Umoja (1250 kW × 2)
- First Engineer – MV Victoria (960 kW × 2)
I have also played significant roles in major projects:
- Secretary of the Monitoring Team during the major overhaul of MV Umoja, a project worth 21 billion Tanzanian Shillings.
- Site Engineer and Member of the Monitoring Team for the extensive renovation of MV Victoria, one of the key vessels in our fleet.
I take pride in being a dedicated, disciplined, cooperative, and hardworking woman who is passionate about her work. My professional journey has been shaped by commitment, teamwork, and love for marine engineering.
My message to my fellow women and girls who are in or aspire to join the maritime sector the secret to success is hard work and unwavering focus on your goals. Love your job wholeheartedly, embrace challenges as stepping stones to growth, and let your performance speak for you. Show your community and leaders that when given the opportunity, you can deliver 100%. Use your potential fully let your work reflect your strength and capability.
