Our Committees
WOMESA Tanzania Chapter has established five committees that play a vital role in enhancing the association’s effectiveness, inclusivity, and responsiveness by distributing responsibilities, fostering specialized expertise, and promoting collaborative governance essential elements for informed decision-making.
Standing committees include:
- Education and Mentorship Committee;
- Fund mobilisation Committee;
- Marketing and Public Relation Committee;
- Member Welfare Committee; and
- Advocacy and Policy Committee.
These committees report directly to WOMESA Tanzania’s Governing Council and include representatives from both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar.

Education and Mentorship Committee
The Education and Mentorship Committee is committed to empowering women in the maritime sector through education, mentorship, and professional development. The objective is to provide accessible learning opportunities, practical skill-building, and structured mentorship programs that support women at every stage of their journey from students exploring maritime careers to seasoned professionals advancing in the field.
- Develop and deliver industry-relevant educational resources and training programs.

Fund mobilisation Committee;
The Fund Mobilisation Committee plays a vital role in advancing the mission of WOMESA Tanzania Chapter by securing the financial resources necessary to support association’s programs, initiatives, and long-term sustainability. This committee is responsible for developing strategic fundraising efforts, cultivating donor relationships, and identifying funding opportunities that align with our vision of empowering women across the maritime industry.
The committee aim to:
- Design and implement effective fundraising campaigns and donor engagement strategies.
- Secure grants, sponsorships, and partnerships from individuals, corporations, and philanthropic organizations.
- Organize fundraising events and initiatives to support education, mentorship, outreach, and advocacy programs.
- Ensure transparency, accountability, and stewardship in the use of funds.
- Promote a culture of giving and community investment within the maritime sector.

Marketing and Public Relation Committee;
The Marketing and Public Relations Committee is committed to strengthening the visibility, credibility, and impact of the WOMESA Tanzania Chapter. Through strategic communication, branded materials, media engagement, and targeted outreach, the committee actively promotes the association’s mission, showcases its programs, and highlights the contributions and achievements of women in Tanzania’s maritime sector.
The committee aim to:
- Develop and implement marketing strategies that increase awareness and engagement across diverse audiences.
- Manage the association’s brand, digital presence, and social media platforms.
- Create compelling content that highlights member stories, initiatives, and industry milestones.
- Build strong media relations and serve as a key point of contact for public communications.
- Support recruitment, fundraising, and event promotion through cohesive and consistent messaging.

Member Welfare Committe
The Member Welfare Committee is committed to promoting the well-being, safety, and professional fulfillment of all members of the Association for Women in Maritime. The committee focus on creating a supportive and inclusive environment that values the personal and professional needs of our member ensuring they feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their maritime careers.
The committee aim to:
- Advocate for policies and practices that support the health, safety, and work-life balance of women in maritime.
- Provide resources, support services, and referrals related to mental health, workplace challenges, and personal development.
- Organize wellness initiatives, peer support networks, and community-building activities.
- Address issues such as harassment, discrimination, and inequality by providing safe reporting channels and support mechanisms.
- Foster a culture of care, respect, and mutual support within the maritime industry.

Advocacy and Policy Committee
The Advocacy and Policy Committee is dedicated to championing the rights, representation, and advancement of women in the maritime sector through strategic advocacy, policy development, and institutional engagement. The committee works to influence positive change by addressing systemic barriers, promoting gender equity, and ensuring that women’s voices are included in maritime decision-making at all levels.
The committee aim to:
- Advocate for inclusive policies and practices within maritime institutions, companies, and governing bodies.
- Monitor and analyze maritime laws, regulations, and industry standards to identify opportunities for reform and inclusion.
- Engage with policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to shape gender-responsive maritime policies.
