My Name is Eng. Farida Shabani Zowange, a prou.d Tanzanian and an active member of the WOMESA Tanzania Chapter.I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering Technology from the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) and am a licensed Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch. Currently, I serve as a Marine Engineer with the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) in Dar es Salaam.
A pivotal part of my professional journey has been the mentorship and empowerment I received through WOMESA Tanzania Chapter. Their guidance has not only helped me grow as a professional but has shaped me into a leader. Today, I am honoured to serve as the Marketing and Communications Officer for WOMESA Tanzania a position that allows me to give back to the same network that helped mold me.
WOMESA provided a valuable platform where I connected with other women in the maritime sector, learned from their experiences, and was mentored into becoming the confident woman that I am today. Their support transformed me from a student into a leader with a strong voice in the maritime sector.
In 2018, through WOMESA Tanzania, I had the privilege of participating in the Blue Economy Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya. The event that brought together delegates from 17 countries and opened my eyes to the vast opportunities and collaborative efforts within the sector.
Looking back, I can confidently say that WOMESA Tanzania has been instrumental in shaping my character and career. I take pride in being one of the few Tanzanian women who have worked on board ships an ambitious path that many hesitate to pursue. But I am not stopping here.
I am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Marine Engineering Management and remain passionate about advancing in the maritime field. I still dream of working aboard large vessels cruise ships, container ships, or oil tankers around the world. With continued passion, mentorship, and determination, I believe that dream is well within reach.
