My Testimony Naramatisho Samwel Karao
My name is Naramatisho Samwel Karao, and I am a proud Marine Engineer with a passion for both technical work and supporting women in the maritime industry. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Marine Engineering, which gave me a strong start in this career.
A key part of my early experience was a six-month sea service aboard the landing craft Blue Economy 1. It was a life-changing time for me. I learned how ships operate, how to manage engineering systems on board, and what daily life at sea really looks like. I also gained important life skills like teamwork, resilience, and discipline.
Today, I work at Aegle Mining Company Limited in the Shipping Department, where I help manage shipping operations and cargo logistics. This role lets me combine my engineering background with real-world shipping knowledge. It has helped me understand how the maritime industry supports the economy and how important it is to keep things running smoothly.
Outside of my job, I am very passionate about gender inclusion in the maritime sector. I know that women face many challenges in this field, but I believe that by sharing our stories and mentoring others, we can make space for more women to join and thrive. I want to be a role model for young girls who dream of working at sea.
I am also interested in the blue economy, which focuses on using ocean resources in a way that supports jobs, protects the environment, and helps our country grow. I believe my work is part of this bigger goal.
I know I still have a lot to learn, but I am motivated to keep growing and making a difference. I hope my journey inspires other young women to believe in themselves and know that there is a place for them in the maritime world.
