My name is Martha Kalolo, and I am a passionate and hardworking marine engineering professional with hands-on experience onboard both local and international vessels. My journey at sea began with a strong desire to grow and serve with excellence in the marine engineering field, and over the years, I have developed skills, confidence, and resilience through real-life engine room operations.
I began my professional sea career as an Engine Cadet onboard the MV AZAM SEALINK ONE under Azam Marine, where I served from 15th November 2021 to 2nd June 2022. During this time, I was introduced to shipboard operations, engine maintenance routines, and safety practices. It was a learning-intensive period where I developed a deep respect for discipline, procedures, and teamwork in the engine department.
Following that experience, I was honoured to join Royal Caribbean International one of the world’s leading cruise lines. From 25th August 2022 to 22nd April 2023, I served aboard the M/S ENCHANTMENT OF THE SEAS as a Junior Engineman. This role allowed me to put my knowledge into action, working directly with machinery and systems that demanded high levels of accuracy and responsibility.
My performance led to further engagement with Royal Caribbean, where I proudly worked as a Junior Engineman again from 18th July 2023 to 18th May 2024 aboard the M/S LIBERTY OF THE SEAS. Each day at sea sharpened my technical and safety skills, especially in monitoring engine operations and ensuring compliance with international standards.
Most recently, from 7th September 2024 to 29th May 2025, I continued onboard the LIBERTY OF THE SEAS as an Oiler, specifically in a role focused on chemical handling and operations which earned me the nickname “Chemical Woman” among my colleagues. This role tested my abilities in both precision and endurance, dealing with specialized equipment and maintaining safety while handling chemical substances within the engine systems.
Throughout these experiences, I’ve grown into a confident, reliable, and team-oriented marine professional. I am proud of my progress and remain committed to continuous learning and contributing effectively to the maritime industry.
