Iam Jenifrida Gerald Issa, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Shipping and Logistics Management at Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute. Being a mentee of WOMESA Tanzania has profoundly impacted not only my academic, professional and personal journey but also leadership skills.
Academic Encouragement:
WOMESA has played a pivotal role in motivating me to excel academically. For three consecutive years, I have been honoured to receive awards for being the best student in my studies. These awards are not just accolades; they are a testament to the support and encouragement I have received from WOMESA Tanzania. The organization recognises hard work and dedication, which inspires me to strive for excellence in my studies. Knowing that there is an organisation that believes in my potential pushes me to do my best every day.
Connecting with Industry Professionals:
One of the most significant benefits I have gained from being a part of WOMESA Tanzania family is the opportunity to connect with a diverse network of professionals in the maritime industry. Through various events, workshops, and networking sessions, I have met incredible women who are leaders and pioneers in maritime sector. These connections have not only provided me with valuable insights into the industry but have also opened doors for mentorship and collaboration. I’ve had the privilege of accessing life-changing opportunities, including sponsorship to attend the 1st International Blue Economy Conference and participating the commemoration of the 4th International Day for Women in Maritime Sector in Tanga. WOMESA Tanzania has also connected me with inspiring women across the maritime sector
Becoming a Voice for Girls:
Being part of WOMESA has empowered me to become a voice for other young women, both within and outside of our institute. I have learned the importance of advocating for ourselves and each other in an industry that still has room for growth regarding gender representation. I am committed to inspiring other ladies to pursue their dreams in maritime, to break barriers, and to challenge stereotypes. Together, we can create a supportive community that uplifts one another.
Leadership Skills:
Through WOMESA Tanzania, I have gained confidence, leadership skills, and the inspiration to launch my own organisation, Blue Horizon. I am proud to be part of a community that is deeply committed to equipping and uplifting women across Eastern and Southern Africa.
